Johan Jacob Dekke Beyer

is born in Bergen 20th november 1830.

At a young age he entered his Father, Frands Dekke Beyers business, which he some years later took over and managed, untill the firm in 1858 disbanded.

Brother Frederick Beyer continued bookstore and bindery, while Johan Beyer took over the printing house.

By our music life Development Johan Surface Beyer much profit, and although he was a violinist with distinct and recognized talent.

It was after leaving school Beyers intends to train as a musician, but only after his father's death he realized his plan to study at the conservatory in Leipzig. He stayed there for two years.

After his return in 1856 he gave a series of concerts in Christiania (Oslo), in the towns on the coast and in Bergen, and later played for a long time in the orchestra at the national scene in Bergen.

Beyer had suddenly quit his artistic path to take care of his business, but he did not abandon music for that reason.

On the contrary, he was faithful to the music until his death, it was his passion, and we dare to say that the hours he indulged in musical worship belonging to his life's richest and most beautiful.

It was first and foremost in his beloved string quartet, "The Beyerske quartet", he found his joy.

This quartet was formed in 1863 and consisted then of Johan Surface Beyer (1st Violin), merchant Lauritz Wiborg (2den Violin), Consul Arthur Kohmann (Bratsch) and harmony former conductor Maczewski (Violoncel).

The quartet has the inevitable person shifts worked until Beyer's death for a period of 37 years.

Of the later members we mention August Friis, W. Harloff, deceased C. Rabe and merchant Nicolaisen.

The quartet stands as a shining example of what can be accomplished when true musical spirit and faithful endurance work together.
